Regional chronostratigraphy in the eastern Lesser Antilles quaternary fore-arc and accretionary wedge sediments: Relative paleointensity, oxygen isotopes and reversals

Paleomagnetism is a powerful tool for establishing an almost continuous chronostratigraphy entire region. When combined with other dating methods, absolute or relative, it can be used to develop regional reference chronostratigraphic framework. During the summer of 2016, several piston cores were collected along Atlantic side Lesser Antilles onboard R/V Pourquoi pas? as part CASEIS Expedition. Core CAS16-24PC was devoted analysis and allowed development quasi-continuous Quaternary record. In this study, after identifying removing rapidly deposited layers such turbidites tephra layers, we reconstructed relative paleointensity (RPI) variations by normalizing natural remanent magnetization laboratory induced anhysteretic magnetization. An age model developed comparing our RPI record PISO-1500 stack paleomagnetic axial dipole moment past 2 Myr (PADM-2M) planktic oxygen isotopic (δ18O) core LR04 benthic stack. By combining δ18O stratigraphy analyses, established covering Brunhes/Matuyama boundary Jaramillo Subchron back ~1.15 Ma mean sedimentation rate 1.7 cm/kyr. This complements data from IODP campaigns volcanic records, offers complete inclination, declination records local reference.
